Dessert in a Pinch

There’s nothing that throws us into an entertaining frenzy quite like unexpected dinner guests. After you serve them that emergency frozen lasagna you’ve been saving for such an occasion, or you’re pulling together a fantastic pasta dish with the sad macaroni remains in the box, it’s time for dessert. Making a wow-worthy dessert isn’t as hard as you would think- in fact, your guests might be so impressed, they’ll forget all about the disaster that might have been dinner.

Need to pull together something fabulous in five minutes or less? Scan your pantry for ingredients for some of our favorite last-minute desserts.

1. Fancy Sorbet
You need: Sorbet, Oranges
Step One: Cut top off of orange and carve inside. Place orange guts aside.
Step Two: Fill orange shell with sorbet. We’d like to suggest lemon, raspberry, or strawberry for the most excellent contrast in color, texture, and flavor.
Step Three: Place top back on orange and freeze for 15-30 minutes.

2. Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows
You need: Marshmallows, Hot Fudge, Toppings such as pistachios, peppermint candies, nuts, sprinkles, m&m’s, etc
Step One: Warm chocolate in pan on stove over low heat.
Step Two: Dip marshmallow in chocolate and let cool.

3. Drunken Berries and Cream
You need: Berries that are in season, whipped cream, amaretto
Step One: Wash berries and place in bowl.
Step Two: Soak berries in amaretto. Refrigerate for 30-60 minutes.
Step Three: Remove berries from fridge. Drain excess liquid and put aside.
Step Four: Accent with whipped cream and add leftover amaretto.

4. Fancy Sundaes
You need: Vanilla ice cream, Madeline cookies, whipped cream
Step One: Cut Madeline cookies into cubes and place in shallow, stem less wine glass.
