Anybody who knows me has become aware of my caffeine addiction. Seriously. Nine cups a day ‘else I get the shakes. Its an unfortunate circumstance that my daily coffee budget far exceeds that of my food allowance, but I venture to guess my addictions could be much more expensive given my cravings of choice. Since I’m often broke and always in need of a fix, I’ve had to increasingly cut back on my Starbucks habit. Luckily, I’ve learned a few tricks to help spend smarter than your average coffee addict.
Here are some ways to get your caffeine fix without blowing all the money you should really be saving for your electricity bill:
- Hold onto your cup. Starbucks offers 50cent refills on any sized coffees if you downed your first cup in five minutes flat. I’ve been known to take a “road coffee” on really tough days when I won’t be able to leave the office until 3p.
- Always keep your receipt. A few summers ago, Starbucks started an awesome policy of awarding $2 grande beverages with a morning receipt. This even applies to smoothies, which can run upwards of $4.
- The next time you find yourself at your favorite coffee shop, opt for a few shots of espresso over ice in lieu of your usual latte. Make your way over to the fixin’s counter and fill up that cup with the milk of your choice. Shake your cup to distribute evenly, pop your straw in, and go.
-Make friends with your barista. My girl, Shar, throws me a freebie now and then if I catch her on a slow day.
