Weekend Wish List

This week seemed to bring a lot of daydreaming about- for extra hours of sleep, for crunchy peanut butter in order to make the ideal PB&J poor girl dinner, for shorter work weeks and longer weekends. However, when it boils down to the five things I’ve been drooling over since last week, here’s what made the cut:

1. Corn on the cob. Fresh, sweet, crunchy: the epitome of summer. Is anything as wonderful as carefully twirling and biting a buttered corn cob, holding a cold beer between your sundress-covered bug-bitten knees? I think not.

2. Benny & Joon on DVD. My very wonderful boy on a budget was shocked and horrified that I had not experienced this magical love story between an adorably blonde Mary Stuart Masterson and a very young (and very gorgeous) Johnny Depp. These two eccentric outsiders blow the minds off of all the traditional small-town folks when they fall head over heels in love with each other. Tennis racket mashed potatoes and ironed grilled cheese sandwiches never looked so good. I highly recommend it, if you’ve never been lucky enough to see it yourself.

3. An hourglass. It is a favorite hostess gift or Christmas present to welcome a new member to my extended family or circle of friends, as I feel it is always fitting to remember that time is a gift. The statement in and of itself is a cheesy one, fit for a poster of kittens running on a clock and posted in a doctor’s waiting room, but it is something I try to keep in mind when rushing around and battling the daily grind.

4. A Cuisinart pink popcorn maker. There is something so silly about a pastel-colored appliance that basically only serves one simple purpose. When I was younger my fabulous godmother had a combination lava lamp/popcorn maker that could keep my baby sister and I entertained for hours. I like to think that this is a grown-up alternative and could really take my usual movie night parties to the next level.

5. This pale blue pin tuck shirt. As a personal rule, I try to stay away from browsing Etsy whenever possible. I find it somewhat overwhelming, similar to the feeling I get walking into a Forever 21 after 3p when the entire store is in disarray- good luck if you’re searching for something specific. However, this vintage 50’s blouse, profiled on A Cup of Jo, would be perfect with a pair of cigarette jeans and wedges for date night.
