Spinach-Artichoke Dip for the B on a B

Most family parties at the Broke Brooklyn Bitch household involve food, food, a little bit of booze, and more food. As a girl who’s always looking for another gourmet recipe to bring along to a dinner party or pull out along with my Hostess smile, this one is a surefire two-thumbs-up (if this past holiday weekend was any indication).

Warning: the recipe below is notoriously so delicious, more than one guest will ask you for the recipe right on the spot. True story.

All you need:
1 box frozen spinach, thawed
1 jar artichoke hearts, drained and roughly chopped
½ c whipped cream cheese (while I initially scoffed as the inclusion of such a silly ingredient, this one is absolutely necessary)
¾ c sour cream
1 c grated Cheddar cheese (to save time, buy pre-shredded at the supermarket)
salt and pepper

Sliced French bread or pita chips, for serving

1.    Heat oven to 400.
2.   Squeeze spinach between paper towels to eliminate excess moisture.
3.   Combine spinach with chopped artichokes, cream cheese, sour cream, and cheese.
4.   Season with salt and pepper (this will require more than a little taste-testing).
5.   Scrape mixture into a small oven-safe baking dish.
6.   Bake until heated through and lightly brown, approx 13-15 min.
7.   Serve warm with bread or pita chips.

What’s your favorite treat to bring to a party? Are you a lady who plays it safe with a bottle of wine, or are you more of a daredevil/showstopper when it comes to bringing an offering? We’d love to know your tried-and-true favorite recipes so that we can give them a run in our Brooklyn Budget test kitchen.
